“Application of crop growth simulation and mathematical
modeling
to supply chain management in the Thai sugar industry”
In the Northeast of Thailand, the poor cooperation for sugarcane
supply planning between mills and growers
causes unstable supply;
it exceeds the mill's capacity during the peak of harvest season
and falls below at the start and at the end.
This generates unnecessary sugar loss.
To solve this problem, the resarchers proposed the application of
a crop growth model and a mathematical model
to constructing a cultivation plan, which optimizes overall sugar
production.
