M. caloneura, one of the wild Mangifera species, distributed in Northeast Thailand

M. caloneura, one of the wild Mangifera species, is distributed in Northeast Thailand. It comes to be obvious that local people may recognize 2 types in M. caloneura from our previous survey. One was called muang paa (wild mango in Thai), and another was called muang kalon (meaning is unknown). The tree shape, bark color and leaf shape were differed between them, indeed. Besides, people distinguish the two mangoes from the difference of fruits. So I went to Northeast Thailand in early April to study the fruit of M. caloneura.

The fruits collected from muang paa (7 trees) and muang kalon (5 trees) were observed and compared on their morphology. As the result, there was a significant differences between them. I report you this result with photos in detail.

タイ東北部にはマンゴー属野生種のひとつ、M. caloneuraが分布しています。

これまでの調査で、地域の人々はM. caloneuraのうちに2種類を見出していることがわかっていました。ひとつはmuang paa（野生マンゴーの意）、もうひとつはmuang kalon（意味は不明）と呼ばれていました。たしかに樹形、樹皮の色、葉の形に違いがありました。そして地域の人々は果実の違いにもとづいてこの2種類を見分けているようでした。そこで、今月上旬にタイ東北部の野生マンゴーM. caloneuraの果実を調査しにいきました。muang paa（7個体）、muang kalon（5個体）から果実を得て、形態を観察・比較した結果、両者の果実品質にはたしかに違いがみられました。セミナーで詳細を報告したいとおもいます。
