Tengcha cultivation in Japan and utilization of this plant
The Ampelopsis grossedentata Hand.-Mazz. W. T. Wang (Tengcha)
is a specific plant mainly distributes along the southern part of
Changjiang River basin. It possesses a high concentration of
flavonoids, ployphenol and polysaccharide, which have functions
such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, blood sugar and blood
pressure control and so on. These effective components make the
plant valuable. To utilize Tengcha, cutting and tissue culture
has been conducted, and also some cultivars have been selected.
The plant is usually used to produce tea and other health
products in China. But relatively, some problems also occur in
the Tengcha industry. The most serious one is that the lack of
standard throughout the whole industry chain. This research aims
to cultivate Tengcha in Japan and to find a much more regular way
to utilize this plant and finally establish a industry with
uniform products.
In the presentation, I will briefly introduce the growth
environment, nutrient value and recent research achievement of
Tengcha. Then I will move on to the problems existing in the
industry and my research plan in the early stage (mainly focus on
cutting cultivation).
